This piece was made by Jacob
Cartales a freshman at Dreyfoos School of the Arts. You may think that he used
fancy tools to complete this piece but you are wrong. He did not even have a
nice work bench to work on it was a wooden table with a piece of plywood thrown
on it. The few tools he used to complete the piece were a sledge hammer, a
welder, a small vice, couple different sets of pliers, a small grinder, a pair
of bolt cutters and pure dedication. He said the most challenging parts of this
piece to make were the talons, beak/face, and the wings. The body just came
together. The most important couple things to him about this piece was that it
was a very good learning process, it turned out amazing, and it has inspired
many friends and family.
This piece was very exciting to make
since it is his second major sculpture. He said he is discovering what he is
really capable of and very proud of it. Even though these sculptures are very
time consuming he says they are defiantly worth it. He wants to continue
working on these pieces, wants to create more and create a collection of them.
By doing this he hopes to inspire as many people has possible. This piece is
going to go on display at Crestwood Middle School. It is hopefully going to go
on to many other places on display. He chose Crestwood Middle School because
their mascot is a bald eagle. He thought it would be a very attractive
temporary edition to the front office and a good start for the Silver Bald Eagle’s
(sculpture) adventure.
