Art Basel: Markus Linnenbrink

"Memachineremains"

BY MAXWELL ZENGAGE
Throughout the four day international Art Basel in Miami Beach, each contemporary artist was arranged by constructed walls separating one artist from the next. To me, one of the pieces that stood out was “Memachineremains” created by Markus Linnenbrink. This is made with epoxy resin and pigments on wood that are 60 by 48 inches. Linnenbrink is selling this piece for $40,000; it was created in 2013. This is one of hundreds of art pieces in Art Basel that are considered post modern, current works created mostly by living artists from both national and foreign locations who are big-name artists in the art world. There were a few focuses on legends of art including Picasso and Miro.
Memachineremains
Art Basel was an incredible experience for me. With a differing volume of artists from that which I am used to, and made up of mostly “new” art. Art Basel was very contrastive to the museums and galleries that I usually attend.
Art Basel is an overwhelming exhibition that left me in awe as I walked and observed one artist after another. Though I loved the experience, the various talks (between an interviewer and an artist) did not excite me. This was mainly due to the topics they discussed. Other than that specification, I loved Art Basel and will continue to attend in the following years.
Miami’s Art Basel is a gathering of a of international post modern and a few modern artists. A must see for everyone from slightly to involved in the arts!
