Blockage, 2012. Site Specific - Installation Photo: Katherine Kennedy |
Location: A. W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts Building 9 Gallery
Date of Exhibition: October 3 - October 25, 2012
My
work is a personal exploration of my culture, religion, societal views of
domesticity, and their object-based accessibility. Site-specific installations,
photographed documentation and paintings constitute the physical
representations of my attempt to understand my surroundings through a variety
of media.
The process of creating these works
is just as important as the final product. The physical process of building
these ten-foot tall structures within a familial space challenges everything I
know about how domestic environments function within the psyche. The juxtaposition of these symmetrical,
altar-like structures is very important; the rearrangement of the
objects—household furniture, personal talismans, vessels and containers—into
pyramidal forms references the layering of ideas concerning the paradigm of
living in a healthy, happy home.
